About

I'm Wendy Lai. I grew up in Richmond, left for a decade, and came back in 2018. I work in accounting. This is a hobby site, started in 2021.

Why

Because the guides I could find treated Richmond either as an airport annexe or as a novelty — "the best Chinese food outside China", repeated in every article and never followed by anything specific. I wanted something a visiting friend could actually use.

How I keep it current

Every page says when it was last checked. Restaurants and the night market change fastest, so those get looked at twice a year and I mark anything I haven't been back to. Where I'm uncertain, I say so on the page rather than writing with false confidence.

What I don't cover

Hotels, because I've never stayed in one here and wouldn't be adding anything. Nightlife, for much the same reason. And I don't rank restaurants, because the turnover makes a ranking wrong within the year.

Language

I write in English and read Chinese, which is how the menu notes came about. If something on this site misrepresents a dish or a place, please tell me — that's the correction I most want to get right.
